There is a wealth of information and misinformation online on what a relationship with Spirit and with your Guides is supposed to be like. Lots of it sounds very woo woo even to me, and so on the prompt from my own team I decided to share my thoughts (and theirs) on the subject.
Your relationship with spirit is as personal, intimate and unique as is your relationship with yourself and Divine Creator. There is no one size fits all because we are all unique in our expression. How you can deepen this relationship, however, are things we can all put into practice.
Simply choose what feels best for you.
I will emphasize my use of deepening versus creating. You already have a relationship with Spirit because whether we’re aware of it or not, we are always connected to infinite loving consciousness.
Meditation
Of course, the retired Buddhist in me is going to bring this one up. It is old, ancient even, practice and it remains as current today as it was then because it’s one of the best ways to meet you where you which opens you up. It doesn’t just open you up to the psychic world, but it helps you have the discernment to know if a thought that arises in your mind is yours, inherited from society, or a channeled message.
Meditation is not the same as Mindfulness, and to be honest, I am not a huge fan of mindfulness. Mainly because my meditation practice is based and rooted on Zen and Zazen. Zazen can seem very dry and nearly military to some, but it has been an enriching and humbling experience for me. It has stripped layers and continues to do so.
Meditation is meeting yourself where you are, as you are, with the totality of who and what you are, in this now moment and noticing when you aren’t as present too. It is simple and challenging to practice all at the same time. Yet the cushion remains one of the best places to experience that deep connection to yourself and spirit.
You don’t need to meditate for hours on end, nor shave your head and join the nearest monastery. A few minutes a day, or dedicated times a week, are more than enough. Showing up for even only 5 minutes is enough.
What matters is your consistency, not the perfection of it.
Dream Journaling
Set the intention prior to sleep that you will converse with your highest-level guides and your highest self and that you will have conscious awareness of the conversation in the morning. I would also highly recommend keeping pen and paper on your nightstand and writing down whatever is fresh in your mind about your dreams.
There is some cool data in there that will help give insight and strengthen your awareness of your bond with Spirit.
Prayer
I love talking to God. Whatever your experience with Prayer, please see that it doesn’t need to what is preached about. This is about YOU. It’s about your sense of connection to something bigger than yourself. I do believe in God, but not the one frozen in some paper, but the one that shares breath with me.
Prayer can help us awaken to the sacredness of our desire and to understand why that desire exists in the first place. It also helps us see if our attachment to said desire is impeding or honoring you.
Having an Altar
To me an altar is a sacred symbol reminding us of things beyond just this earthly realm. It also creates a space, a practice for you and spirit. An altar grounds a home. What is included in the altar is entirely up to you. You can have an ancestral altar honoring your loved ones in full nonphysical, or you can have statues of your favorite deities and ascended masters. I will warn that having pictures of your alive loved ones in an ancestral altar is not good practice.
Offering food, water, money, candles, incense, colognes and flowers are all options for your altar. Honor what calls to you.
Quiet time
If meditation isn’t your thing, simply take a second, place your hand in your heart and feel your pulse, your breath. Check in throughout the day. When you have a feeling of knowing that you cannot explain, listen to it.
Pay attention. Prompts come through the body, through the breath. Simply make note of them when they arise.
Self-trust
Trust that you are enough, that what you receive is enough, that Spirit doesn’t need to be extra in their showing up for them to be present in your life. Trust that you are connected, as we all are, for you have purpose, you are worthy, you are enough as you are today, as you are right now, and always have been. Learn to discern between your trauma, your fears and your desires.
Guidance comes in high forms. If it points you back to you, if it gives you insight into you and your situation, if it gives you choice, it’s highest wisdom. If it fills you with fear and takes choice away or creates dependency, it isn’t highest wisdom.
Set the intention before any of this practices that it is for your highest good with your highest-level guides and your highest self. Cleanse your aura regularly and before bed. Simply picture a white light pouring from the top of your head to your toes and all around. You can recite a mantra or a prayer. Mine tends to be “I encircle myself in the white light of God’s Love and Divine Protection” and I often say these repeated times throughout the day and before sleep. Messages can come through music, reading, Instagram posts, what someone repeatedly says, and even television. It’s just about paying attention and deeply listening.
